Standard 2.5V LVPECL termination is shown in Figure 1. The draw back of this termination require addition power supply VCCO-2V = 0.5V. The equivalent termination is shown in Figure 2 and Figure 3. These termination schemes eliminate the used of 0.5V power supply. Terminating 50 Ohms pull down to ground as shown in Figure 4 eliminates the need of power supply of 0.5V power supply and also reduces component count. The draw back of this termination is that this can increase the power dissipation of the part per output. This termination is recommend for partial loading or low number of fan out buffer. Designers should make sure that the part does not exceed the recommend junction temperature.
